Monthly painting
This painting was made just before the corona logout in Denmark. In terms of production its a rather untraditional painting because I have not really painted it at all. For a long time, I have been playing with the thought on making a visual representation of DAOs. DAO stands for decentralized anonymous organization and is a way to organize people with interests in systems where they have to come to an agreement on the condition of the system. As chaotic this might seems, DAOs use code to solve potential disagreements. The painting consists of leftover paint from the entire last year of my production and has also served as the fabric surface under my paintings while I worked. So it is made from random actions without intention. In my mind, this is how a DAO would look like on the surface if not the code could control the interests of the participating individuals.
What has happened lately
In April I have released a total of eight new digital artworks. Most notable was my debut on KnowOrigin where I released the artwork “for the love of everything intangible” on the first of April. On KnowOrigin artists can issue editions of their work and I issued five pieces of “for the love of everything intangible”. To my surprise, all five editions were sold after a little more than one hour.
Iona Apples, my former crypto artist proxy, had her last work and performance presented at a conference and show on digital art called Art Teleported in NYC. The project was organized by CICA Museum in Seoul and was held on the 10–11 of January 2020 in Brooklyn. Since this performance and exhibition, I have discontinued working as Iona Apples and all her former crypto art has become a part of my practice.
My decision to do this was because I came to realize that I wanted to emphasize that I believe in digital art and especially tokenized digital art and thus am prepared to use my own name and not a proxy when presenting it to my audience.
Monthly burn of one digital artwork
Since March 2020 I have burned one tokenized artwork a month. I do this to maintain a healthy curated portfolio. Tokenization of art involves a much shorter process than creating exhibitions and it is more process-oriented since one can present works on the go. I have decided not to restrict my own digital art practice and that is why I present works that are in process and have not fallen into “place” in my practice. Being able to burn (delete) these works again if I find that they do not fit into my portfolio is a liberating tool.
One can of cause always save the tokenized artwork by buying it and thus take it out of my hands.
What is happening next
I am super proud and happy to be able to announce that I am working with the Virtual Reality Art presentation project “Infinite art museum”. Together with IAM, I will develop a way to present my painting series “proof of work” in a VR setting. I look forward to telling you more about this in the near future.
As always, let me know what you think about the update and my work. Drop me an e-mail at jonaskasperjensen@outlook.com
