STRING SEMIANNUAL REPORT SPRING 2023

INTRO

Dear reader. This is the first Semiannual report for STRING. I am happy that you are here to read it. You most likely do not know about STRING so I will spend this intro with writing a short description of the piece.

STRING is a series of paintings that started in 10/08/2015. I began working on STRING because I wanted to mimic how bitcoin mines blogs. I thought of each STRING paintings as one block of my labour and work. As a conceptual timebase artwork only one STRING would be created a month, just like a fixed amount of bitcoins will ever be minted.

Without breaks I have been working on STRING and now there exists more that 90 STRINGs in total. I still posses the majority. In 2020 I began minting every single STRING on my own smart contract on Ethereum. The smart contract was written by 0xert, a company that does not exist anymore. I still have plans for getting STRING onchain so that both image file and contract are recorded into a blockchain. But the right solution is not out there just yet so I wait.

I have lots of interesting thoughts on how to develop STRING in the future. One thought is that STRINGs can represent stocks in a company and that owners of STRING can get involved in how the company is run through a DAO. To do that I need guidance, if you are interested in helping me out, then contact me, I would be happy to experiment.

REPORT

In spring I have revisited the theme of abandoned code. Last time I worked on this theme were in the last crypto bearmarket. I am not particular interested in market circles, but I feel them when I for example work in a metaverse or interact with people on social media. Most metaverses seams empty and I like the idea of them being empty visible code graveyards. Last time I painted this motive the code was not as manifest as it is now so its ben an exiting research for me to see shapes and some sort of realism return to my paintings.

I have also been working on how a NATION will emerge, exist and decline. This is a theme that I just can’t let go of so I gave myself the pleasure of painting it once again. I have used interference paint for this series and the colours will faint when there is no direct sunlight, but in direct sunlight they are so bright that you almost can’t look at them.

I did not sell any STRINGs in spring but I plan to make a STING SEMIANNUAL REPORT EVENT where the six new STRINGs might get auctioned away.
